Electrical work we take care of

From a dead power point to wiring for a new heat pump, we look after the everyday electrical jobs Auckland homes and small businesses need. We find the real cause first, explain it in plain English, and give you a clear price before any work starts.

Fault finding & repairs

Power tripping, circuits gone dead, lights flickering or a burning smell from a socket. We trace the fault, make it safe and fix it properly.

Power points & switches

Extra power points, USB outlets, outdoor sockets, and replacing cracked, loose or scorched fittings.

Lighting

LED downlights, pendant and feature lighting, outdoor and security lights, and swapping tired old fittings for efficient new ones.

Heat pump electrical

Dedicated circuits, isolators and reconnections for heat pumps and air conditioning. It’s our home ground, so the heat pump and the wiring are sorted together.

Hot water cylinders

No hot water, lukewarm water or a cylinder tripping the power. Elements, thermostats and wiring faults repaired.

Appliance connections

Ovens, cooktops, rangehoods, dishwashers, waste disposals and heated towel rails, disconnected and connected safely.

Switchboards & safety

Switchboard upgrades, RCD protection for older homes, and surge protection for your electronics.

EV chargers

Home electric vehicle chargers, including a check of your supply and switchboard so the charger runs at full speed without tripping.

Renovations & new circuits

New circuits for kitchens, bathrooms, sleepouts and garages, planned around your build and coordinated with your other trades.

Why Simpson

Electrical work, done the straight way

The same approach our heat pump customers know us for: turn up on time, do it properly, tidy up, and price it honestly.

Safe, tested and certified

All work is carried out to AS/NZS 3000 by appropriately licensed electrical workers, tested before we leave, and certified with a Certificate of Compliance wherever the regulations require one. You get the paperwork, so your insurer, landlord or buyer has it too.

One call for the whole job

Already having a heat pump installed or a hot water cylinder repaired? We handle the electrical side at the same time, so you’re not chasing a second trade or paying for a second callout. Bigger jobs are planned and project-managed by us from quote to sign-off.

Clear pricing

Defined jobs get a fixed price up front. For fault finding, we tell you how we charge before we start and call you before going further if the fix turns out bigger than expected. No surprises on the invoice.

Local and owner-operated

Based in Remuera and working Auckland-wide. When you call, you talk to Ben, not a call centre, and the person who quotes the job is the person responsible for getting it right.

How an electrical job runs

1. Tell us what’s happening. Call or send the form with your suburb and a quick description. Photos of the fault, the switchboard or the spot where you want a new fitting help us price faster.

2. Price before we start. Simple jobs can often be priced over the phone. For bigger work we come and look first, then give you a fixed written quote.

3. The work. Done tidily, with the power off only as long as it needs to be, and with your home or business left as we found it.

4. Test, certify, hand over. Everything is tested before we leave and you receive your certificate where one is required, along with a clear explanation of what was done.

Safety first

Signs you should call now

Some electrical problems shouldn’t wait. If you notice any of these, stop using the circuit or appliance and get it checked.

Burning smell or scorch marks

Discoloured sockets or switches, or a hot plastic smell, usually means a loose or overloaded connection.

A breaker or RCD that keeps tripping

It’s doing its job. Repeated tripping points to a fault on the circuit or in an appliance, not a faulty switch.

Tingles or small shocks

Any tingle from a tap, appliance or fitting is a warning. Switch off at the switchboard if it’s safe to, and call.

If someone has had an electric shock, or there’s smoke or fire, call 111 first.

Electrical questions

What electrical work do you do?

Fault finding and repairs, power points and switches, lighting, appliance connections, heat pump and air conditioning circuits, hot water cylinder electrical repairs, switchboard upgrades, RCD and surge protection, EV chargers, and new circuits for renovations. Homes, rentals and small businesses across Auckland.

Will I get a Certificate of Compliance?

Yes, wherever the regulations require one. All work is carried out to AS/NZS 3000 by appropriately licensed electrical workers, tested before we leave, and certified. Keep the certificate with your house records, because insurers, landlords and buyers can ask for it.

How much does electrical work cost in Auckland?

It depends on the job, so we price it rather than guess. Defined jobs such as adding power points, replacing light fittings or wiring a heat pump get a fixed price up front, often over the phone if you send a photo. Fault finding is quoted on how we charge before we start, and we call you before going further if the fix turns out bigger than expected.

Can you do the electrical work for my new heat pump?

Yes. Every heat pump we install includes the electrical connection, and we can also add a dedicated circuit or isolator for a unit someone else is supplying. Having the heat pump and electrical work handled by one team saves you coordinating two trades. See heat pump installation for what’s included.

My power keeps tripping. What should I do?

Unplug everything on that circuit and reset the breaker or RCD. If it holds, plug things back in one at a time; if it trips when a particular appliance goes back in, that appliance is the likely culprit. If it trips with nothing plugged in, the fault is in the wiring and needs checking. Don’t keep resetting it or tape it on, because tripping is the protection doing its job.

Do you install EV chargers?

Yes. We check your supply and switchboard first, because a charger is a big continuous load and older boards often need an upgrade to run one safely at full speed. You get a fixed quote covering the charger, the circuit and any board work needed.

Do you work on rentals and small businesses?

Yes. We work with landlords and property managers on repairs and upgrades, and with small offices and shops on lighting, power and air conditioning circuits. Tenants can be contacted directly to arrange access, and invoices go to whoever is paying.
