Daikin AirHub

Zoning for Daikin ducted systems in Auckland

Most ducted systems run the whole house off one controller. Daikin AirHub splits your home into zones, with a touch screen on the wall and a temperature sensor in each zone, so you only heat and cool the rooms you’re using.

The problem

One controller, one temperature, whole house

Without zoning, a ducted system treats your home as one big room. Your house doesn’t behave like one.

Ducted without zoning

Every outlet blows whenever the system is on. The north-facing lounge gets too warm while the south bedroom stays cold, and rooms nobody is in get heated anyway. You pay for air you never wanted.

Ducted with Daikin AirHub

Each zone has its own temperature sensor, and motorised dampers in the ceiling open and close to hold each zone at its own setting. Heat the living areas in the evening and the bedrooms before bed, set each zone on its own timer, and shut off the spare room completely. All from the wall controller, or your phone if you add Wi-Fi.

What the controller actually does

Daikin’s own zone controller, designed for its Inverter and Premium Inverter ducted systems.

7-inch touch screen

A clear colour touch screen in a matte white case, instead of a two-line LCD and a manual.

4 or 8 zones

Enough for most Auckland homes. We size the dampers and plan the zones with you at the assessment.

Phone app (optional)

Add the Daikin Airbase Wi-Fi adaptor, from about $575 installed, to switch zones, change modes and set timers from your phone.

Weekly timers per zone

Program the whole system and each zone on and off at set times through the week.

Eco settings

Setpoint range limit, setpoint auto reset and an auto-off timer help stop the system running when it doesn’t need to.

One brand, one warranty

Controller and ducted system both come from Daikin, so there’s one warranty process for the lot.

Our AirHub prices include a wired temperature sensor in every zone. Wireless sensors are available for homes with internal brick walls. Linear (variable airflow) control is available on Premium Inverter (FDYA) systems and needs a sensor in every zone.

Fit and compatibility

Which systems AirHub works with

New Daikin ducted installs

AirHub works with Daikin Inverter (FDYAN) and Premium Inverter (FDYA) ducted systems, so that’s what we fit when your home needs zoning. We plan the zones as part of the duct design, so damper positions and duct sizes are right from the start. See ducted prices with and without AirHub.

Already have ducted?

If you have a Daikin FDYAN or FDYA system, AirHub can usually be added. It doesn’t work with the Daikin Premium (FDMA) or Slim-Line (FBA) ranges, or with other brands. Send us your indoor unit model and we’ll tell you straight what’s possible rather than sell you something that half works.

In practice

What a zoned home feels like

Morning: bedrooms and bathroom warm before the alarm, living areas as you get up.

Everyone out: zones switch off on their timers, so the system isn’t heating an empty house.

Evening: lounge warm, bedrooms coming on before bed, spare room off. All without touching the controller.

How we do it

Zoning done properly, not just plugged in

A zone controller is only as good as the ductwork and commissioning behind it.

1. Free on-site assessment. We look at your ceiling or underfloor space, your layout and how the house is actually used, then work out sensible zones with you.

2. Fixed quote. A fixed written price covering the Daikin ducted system, AirHub controller, zone sensors, dampers, ducting and commissioning, plus Wi-Fi if you want it.

3. Install and airflow balancing. Ducting, dampers, cabling and controller, then we balance the airflow across the zones. This is the step that gets skipped, and it decides whether zoning actually works.

4. Setup and handover. We set up your zones, timers and the app (if you have Wi-Fi) before we leave, and show you how it all works.

Good to know

AirHub and zoning questions

What is Daikin AirHub?

AirHub is Daikin’s touch-screen zone controller for its ducted systems. It has a 7-inch colour touch screen on the wall, and it splits your ducted system into up to eight zones, each with motorised dampers, so you can turn rooms on and off and run them on their own timers.

Does AirHub work with my ducted system?

AirHub works with Daikin Inverter (FDYAN) and Premium Inverter (FDYA) ducted systems, which is why we fit those when a home needs zoning. It does not work with the Daikin Premium (FDMA) or Slim-Line (FBA) ranges, or with other brands. If you already have a ducted system, tell us the model and we will tell you straight whether AirHub suits it, or what your other options are.

Can I control it from my phone?

Yes, with the optional Daikin Airbase Wi-Fi adaptor (from about $575 installed). Then you can switch zones, change modes and set timers from the Daikin Airbase app on your phone or tablet.

How many zones do I need?

AirHub comes in 4-zone and 8-zone versions. Most Auckland homes sit between three and six zones, for example living areas, kitchen and dining, the main bedroom, and the other bedrooms grouped together. We work it out with you at the free assessment.

What is the difference between On/Off and Linear control?

We fit On/Off control with a temperature sensor in every zone, which opens and closes each zone to hold the temperature you set for it. Linear control varies the airflow to each zone instead of just opening and closing it; Daikin only offers it on the Premium Inverter (FDYA) range, and we can quote it on request.

What does AirHub zoning cost?

As a guide, a 5 kW Daikin Inverter ducted system with AirHub zoning starts from $11,199 installed including GST with three zones and a temperature sensor in each, and AirHub adds from about $2,500 to a new Inverter ducted install. Each extra zone is about $300, and phone app control is an optional add-on from about $575. Every home is different, so we give you a fixed written price after a free assessment.

Will zoning cut my power bill?

It should, because you stop heating and cooling rooms nobody is using, and AirHub has eco settings such as setpoint limits and an auto-off timer. How much you save depends on your home and how you use it, so we will not quote you a percentage we cannot back up.

Do you service zoned ducted systems?

Yes. We service and repair ducted systems across Auckland, including zoned ones. If your zoning has never worked properly, it is often a commissioning or airflow balancing problem we can fix.
