What a ducted system actually is
A ducted heat pump conditions your whole home from a single system. One indoor fan coil sits hidden in your ceiling or underfloor space, and insulated ducting carries conditioned air to a discreet grille in each room. From inside, all you see is a slim vent in the ceiling and a controller on the wall — no wall units, and one outdoor unit instead of several.
It's the option people choose when they want the whole house comfortable rather than one room at a time, and when they don't want hardware on every wall.

Ducted usually makes sense
New builds and full renovations, where ducting can go in before linings. Single-storey homes with decent roof space. Homes where you want every room comfortable, or where you don't want wall units on show. Larger homes where you'd otherwise need four or five separate heat pumps.
When we'd steer you elsewhere
If you only need one or two rooms conditioned, ducted rarely stacks up — a high-wall or two will do the job for a fraction of the cost. Same if there's genuinely no ceiling or underfloor space to run ducting. In those cases we'll recommend high-wall units or a multi-head system instead, and tell you why.
How a ducted job runs
1. Free on-site assessment. We look at your home, your ceiling or underfloor space, your layout and how you actually live in the house — then talk through zoning options.
2. System design and fixed quote. We size the system and ductwork properly, then give you a fixed written price. That price is what you pay.
3. Installation. Ducting, fan coil, outdoor unit, controller and commissioning — done tidily, with drop sheets down and the site cleaned up each day.
4. Handover and support. We walk you through the controller and zoning before we leave, and we're here afterwards for servicing and support.

How much does a ducted heat pump cost in Auckland?
Ducted systems are priced per home rather than off a list, because the cost depends on the number of zones, the size of the system, your ceiling or underfloor space, and how much ductwork is needed. As a guide, a ducted system is a significantly larger investment than a single high-wall unit, but it conditions your whole home from one system. Is ducted better than multiple high-wall heat pumps?
It depends on the house. Ducted wins on looks and whole-home comfort — one discreet grille per room instead of a wall unit in every space, and no outdoor units multiplying around the house. Multiple high-walls usually win on upfront cost and let you heat one room at a time cheaply. For a new build or a full renovation, ducted is often the better long-term answer. For one or two rooms, it rarely stacks up.
Can ducted air conditioning be retrofitted to an existing home?
Often yes — it depends on whether there's enough ceiling or underfloor space to run the ducting and house the indoor fan coil. Single-storey homes with a decent roof cavity are usually straightforward. Two-storey homes and homes with limited roof space need more thought, and sometimes a zoned multi-head system is the better fit. We'll tell you honestly which applies to your place.
What is zoning and do I need it?
Zoning lets you control different areas of the house separately — so you're not paying to heat empty bedrooms while you're in the lounge. Most homes benefit from at least separating living areas from bedrooms. It adds to the upfront cost but usually pays back in running costs and comfort.
How long does a ducted installation take?
A typical residential ducted install takes a few days on site depending on the size of the system, the number of zones, and access. New builds are usually quicker because the ducting goes in before linings. We'll give you a clear timeframe with your quote so you can plan around it.
Do you do ducted for commercial spaces?
Yes — offices, retail and light commercial fitouts, including ceiling cassettes and multi-head systems where ducted isn't practical. Commercial work is quoted individually after a site visit.
