Hot water cylinder repairs — Auckland
No hot water? Lukewarm, or running out fast? We diagnose and repair electric hot water cylinders across Auckland — elements, thermostats, wiring and no-power faults — fast, and done properly.
Common faults we fix
Most electric hot water problems come down to a handful of causes — and the majority are a straightforward electrical repair, not a whole new cylinder. We diagnose the real fault first, then give you a clear price before any work starts.
No hot water at all
Usually a failed element, tripped breaker, or blown supply — we find it and fix it.
Lukewarm water
Often a part-failed element or a thermostat set too low or failing. Testable and repairable.
Runs out too fast
A slow-heating element, thermostat fault, or an undersized cylinder — we'll tell you which.
Tripping the breaker
A failing element or wiring fault can trip your power. We make it safe and sorted.
Takes ages to heat
Element efficiency drops with age and scale. A replacement element restores fast recovery.
Thermostat problems
Water too hot, too cold, or inconsistent — a faulty thermostat is a common, quick fix.
Repair or replace?
We'll always give you the straight answer — not just the pricier one.
When it's a repair
If the fault is the element, thermostat, wiring or power supply, that's electrical work we complete ourselves — usually in a single visit. A repair is almost always the cheaper, sensible fix and buys your existing cylinder years more life.
When it's a replacement
If the tank is leaking from the body, or an ageing cylinder keeps failing, replacement is the better money. A replacement involves the water connections and a plumbing compliance certificate as well as the electrical side — so we handle the electrical work and coordinate a registered plumber for the water side, giving you one organised job instead of two separate callouts.
Electric cylinders — done right
We specialise in electric storage hot water cylinders. That focus means we know them inside out, we carry common elements and thermostats, and we get you hot water again quickly. All electrical work is carried out to AS/NZS 3000 and certified, so your repair is safe, compliant, and documented.
Gas or continuous-flow system? That's gasfitting work and needs a registered gasfitter — we'll point you the right way rather than take on work outside our trade. Straight answers, every time.
Hot water questions
Why has my electric hot water stopped working?
The most common causes on an electric cylinder are a failed heating element, a faulty thermostat, or a tripped breaker or blown supply. These are electrical faults and exactly what we diagnose and repair. If the tank itself is leaking from the body, that's a different problem — the cylinder needs replacing rather than repairing.
Do you repair or replace the cylinder?
Both, but they're different jobs. Repairs — element, thermostat, wiring, no-hot-water and lukewarm-water faults — are electrical work we complete ourselves. A full cylinder replacement also involves the water connections and a plumbing compliance certificate, so we handle the electrical side and coordinate a registered plumber for the water side, giving you one organised job rather than two separate callouts.
My hot water is lukewarm or runs out fast — is that repairable?
Often yes. Lukewarm water is frequently a part-failed element or a thermostat set too low or failing, both of which we can test and repair. Running out quickly can be a failing element heating slowly, a thermostat issue, or a cylinder that's simply undersized for the household — we'll tell you which, honestly.
Is it worth repairing an old cylinder or should I replace it?
If the fault is electrical — element or thermostat — repair is usually the cheaper, sensible fix and buys you years more life. But if the tank is leaking from the body, or the cylinder is 15–20+ years old and failing repeatedly, replacement is the better money. We'll give you the honest call either way, not just the one that suits us.
Do you work on gas or continuous-flow hot water?
No — we specialise in electric storage cylinders only. Gas and continuous-flow systems are gasfitting work and need a registered gasfitter. If that's what you have, we'll point you in the right direction rather than take on work outside our trade.
How quickly can you come out?
No hot water is miserable, so we prioritise it. Get in touch with your suburb and a description of the fault, and we'll come back to you fast — often same or next day for electrical hot water faults across Auckland.
